Located at 929 Camp Street, this Civil War Museum in New Orleans
claims to be the longest standing museum in the state. It is absolutely
crammed with various weird and wonderful memorabilia, including
sword and flag displays along with some pieces from the famous
Jefferson Davis. Other packed display cabinets contain fascinating
items such as, pieces of Robert E Lee’s silver service and
personal effects from common soldiers. Although the exhibits are
not put together with the utmost professionalism, the sheer quality
on show shines through. The building itself deserves some serious
attention with the Confederate memorial Hall’s stunning terra-cotta
arches and interior exposed cypress beams.
The Civil War Museum stands very proud in the city which played a
major part in the event, and holds a very special part in the hearts
of the people. When visiting New Orleans, it is certainly worth considering
a trip to this memorable place. The opening hours are Monday to Saturday
from 10am to 4pm and admission is very reasonable, being in the region
of $5. There are plenty of places nearby for refreshments and it
is easily accessible from the city centre.
