Jazz Fest

New Orleans is regarded as the city which invented jazz, and this fantastic festival draws the people together to celebrate this in style. It boasts 12 different stages which belt out anything from zydeco, R&B, bluegrass, gospel and varying types of rock. It simply oozes talent and it’s not hard to tell this music is coming from the heart, whether it be from an unknown source or someone as famous as Louis Armstrong. To help the festival go as smooth as possible, local restaurants run food stalls serving up some of the city’s famous cuisine, including po’boys, boiled crawfish, gumbo and fried chicken. The area is also surrounded by local artists and craftspeople displaying their products. The whole city becomes involved in this wonderful atmosphere, and evening concerts are held all over. Schedule’s are available to the public from as early as January to enable people to pick and choose which events they want to catch.
The Jazz Fest was originally launched in 1968 with native Louis Armstrong and jazz legend Dave Brubeck the driving force behind it. It gradually built up a reputation with more and more musicians taking part. With over half a million people attending, it is largely advised to make hotel reservations and other plans well in advance.
